A special 10th anniversary edition of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is slated to be available on the App Store just in time for the holiday season. The app will be available for iOS devices on December 6 with a price tag of $4.99.

It's hard to believe that when GTA: Vice City was first released - back in 2002 for the Playstation 2 - the term "smartphone" was not even in the popular vernacular, and if you heard someone use the term it was probably some sort of nerd, and the phone probably wasn't that "smart."

Fast-forward 10 years later, and the graphics that power the average cell phone are more powerful than that now-defunct Playstation system.

So, GTA: Vice City on the iPhone and iPad will bring high-resolution graphics as well as a completely remastered presentation, allowing for new lighting effects, customizable control layouts, and upgraded character models.

There is specific support for the Retina Display, meaning Vice City will look better than you could ever have imagined it back in the days of the PS2.

This is not an iOS exclusive. GTA: Vice City will also be available for a bunch of Android devices, but the graphics will look best on iOS thanks to the Retina Display.

In case you were curious, Vice City has a number of noteworthy accomplishments, such as being the best-selling PS2 game of all time. It was also the #1 selling video game across all platforms the year it debuted. It was previously re-released for the Xbox, but the mobile remake represents the best iteration of the title to date.
